Hello from Amsterdam!

Hi girls!

Well, I am posting this blog from Amsterdam, where I am doing an internship at the Van Gogh Museum. When I am not enjoying being in a fun European country, I have been developing and installing an exhibit on Friends of Van Gogh. I am really enjoying being here, and learning a lot. This internship is the last part of my MA in Museum Studies. Holland is such a nice country to live in (especially when it hasn't been raining for two weeks--or two months--straight and people aren't depressed...But now it is springtime and the tulip season has begun! One nice thing about the rain is that it's gorgeous when the sun shines!)

Beth came over and visited me, and we had a really great time. Actually, we felt a little like we had reverted to sophomore year again, when we would stay up and giggle all night, but hey, at least we were doing it in an exotic place!

In other news, many of you already know, but Austin and I are getting married this July. What was the discussion about people looking like each other? He is just finishing his third year in med school, and although we have been based in DC, next December we find out if we'll stay or perhaps end up in Honolulu, Seattle, or San Antonio ... not bad options, and some pretty exciting events to plan and look forward to before then.

So anyway, that is the news in a nutshell. If anyone finds themselves in this part of the world in the next two months, give me a shout!

Em, thanks for organizing this!

Happy Spring!

It's so great to hear what everyone has been doing!

As for dating someone strikingly similar in appearance, I also fit in that category. My boyfriend Benjamin and I are often told we look alike. We are both doing Internal Medicine residencies (he is two years ahead of me; he was my intern when I was a med student!), but he will pursue a fellowship in Hematology-Oncology, and I will pursue one in gastroenterology.

In other news, I will graduate from medical school in May, but I am finished with my rotations at the end of March, so I have three months off including June (our moving month). It's scary how short of a time until I have an M.D. behind my name!! I just bought my first house in the last week and will be staying in Jackson for an Internal Medicine residency. In the fall, I did a month of gastroenterology at Vanderbilt (and loved it!!) and then in the winter, I interviewed all over the southeast for residency. In my time off, I will be moving and traveling a great deal. I am headed to Africa in April for medical missions and am taking Benjamin to Sewanee to see if he passes the "Sewanee test" (of loving the place!). Benjamin and I are also going skydiving in Cartersville, Georgia, as part of the trip to Sewanee. In July I will start my intern year of residency.

Dating Look Alikes

So after seeing our little Ashley's cute engagement photo in which she is dating a guy who looks strikingly similar to herself, I thought it'd be good to initiate a little conversation/challenge for the sisters to see who is dating the guy that has the most similar coloring/features to yourself. And I think I can compete. Here's a photo of me and the current boyfriend, Michael.
You may be thinking, "they don't look THAT similar" but check out this photo of his 3 yo daughter:
Am I the only person here who sees some similarities? :) I think it's hilarious! Michael's daughter could pass for mine more than any of my neices or nephews.

Why am I dating a guy with a kid? I'm not going to lie, it's a little scary sometimes! It certainly wasn't how I envisioned myself at 25, but Michael and I get along really well and have a ton of fun together so I figured it'd be worth trying. And so far it's been great and I am really happy. :) He's getting his Masters in Education right now and hopes to get a doctorate in divinity so that he can either pastor a church or teach religion at a university.

School is going well here. I'm now in class from 8-9 every morning and rotating through specialty clinics or seeing my own patients the rest of my 40 hr week. I'm heading down to Orlando for Spring Break to get away from the cold (this has been a CRAZY snowy year in Colorado).

Anyone heading toward Denver soon? I'd love to have visitors! Hope to hear more from all you lovely ladies and to see if anyone else is dating an ADT look-alike!

Love and YITS!

Happy March!

Hello my dears! I hope you're all doing well and that we will all post regularly--I think this is a fabulous idea! I'm afraid I don't have very much to say for myself at the moment...I will graduate in May with a Master's in special education (early childhood) and the coursework required to sit for the board certified behavior analysis exam. Nashville is a fun town, and there are several ADTs here (I got to go to Garen's lingerie shower in December--we had a great time embarrassing her!) but I am ready to be done with school. I'm in the early stages of the job search, and will be sure to let you know where I'm going to be after May as soon as I figure it all out. That's about all for now...everybody hurry up and post something soon! :)

Hello!

So I don't have anything as cool as meeting Bono, but I'll post anyway because I'm out of town for work, and catching up with you guys is far more entertaining than the current batch of girls on American Idol ;) No promises once "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader" comes on...

So whats new? Not much. I'm still dating Chris, the same guy I was with at the last update. It's been a year and a half, and things are still great. My stepdad, Mike, is still fighting and going strong. For those of you that don't know, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 2 years ago while I was living in Japan. He has gone into remission once, and it came back, but he's getting better again, so please keep him in your prayers.

So on a happier note, for my fellow equestrians out there, I took my horse Kane to his first jumpers show a few weeks ago. He's only been jumping since August, so we're doing the pre-Level 1's. He's so awesome, lol, I just love him. Chris calls him "the other man" because I spend so much time at the barn, but he knew what he was getting into when he started dating me :-) You other horsey-types understand...
On that note, it's time for me to sign off. There is a cricket somewhere in this awful hotel room, and the chirping is driving me crazy. (It sounds better than some of the Idol contestants though!) So anyways, it's time for me to find the darn thing once and for all. I can't wait to hear from everyone!

welcome!

hey girls ...

we have a blog ... how very 2007 of us. anyway i wanted to get this started with a little post - but i'm sort of grasping at straws for what to say. um...

oh! i know ... yesterday for work we (editor, engineer, host and me - the producer) went up to capitol hill to interview Sen. Barack Obama. The interview was pretty cool - you can give my production skillz a listen here

but on our way out - we saw bono from U2! i guess he was meeting with sen. obama for some reason ... anyway now i can say that i kept bono waiting...pretty cool.

alright ... post away!
